Fantasia is referred to as an exhibition of hosemanship in Northern Africa - as the painting records show that the horse is present in Maghreb since 9000BC. In tamazight (amazigh language), it is usually named "tafrawt" in other words: a horse race of which the root of the word "FRW" recalls a "take off".
The tafrawt is considered as the ornament of the celebration, which could be for a wedding or a sacred day on the calendar. As it is a parade, the oufits of both horsemen and horses are usually symbols of wealth. The shotgun is a moukhala, usually held by the horsemen. There are also 2 main parts to the tafrawt: el kerr & el ferr.
